TribuCR: Preparing for digital transformation in tax management

Costa Rica's tax system is about to take a major turn. In August 2025 (confirmed start date: August 4), TribuCR will replace the ATV platform and with it will change the way companies manage their tax obligations. This new system promises greater automation and control, but also represents a challenge for those who fail to prepare in time.

If we have learned anything from digital transformations, it is that they always generate resistance. It is not the same to do a process manually, with forms and internal calculations, as it is to depend completely on an automated system that audits every movement. And here is the first mistake that many companies could make: esperar hasta el último momento para entender cómo funciona TribuCR.

The change is not minor. TribuCR will unify more than 200 internal systems on a single platform, which means more accurate auditing and less room for error. While this may reduce the risk of evasion and improve transparency, it also means that companies will have to adjust their accounting processes to comply with the new regulations smoothly.

One of the most common mistakes in these changes is to assume that the transition will be automatic. If the company does not update its financial management software or does not train its accounting team, it is likely to face problems in the process. We have already seen cases where new systems generate blockages, document rejections or inconsistencies that end in penalties.

Beyond the challenges, this change also represents an opportunity. Well-implemented digitization can save time, reduce costs and make tax processes more streamlined. But to reap these benefits, companies must be ready.

Costa Rica is no stranger to tax reforms, but the adoption of TribuCR will mark a before and after in the way companies manage their taxes. Those who anticipate and adapt their processes now will have a smoother transition.

At VMA Consulting Group we are helping companies prepare for this change with customized strategies and a hands-on approach. If you want to make sure your business is ready for digital tax transformation, let's talk.
