TribuCR: Lo que tenés que saber antes del 4 de agosto de 2025

Tax management in Costa Rica is about to take an important turn. The Ministry of Finance has already confirmed that TribuCR, the new platform that will replace the current systems such as ATV and Travi, will start operating on August 4, 2025.

This change is no small feat. For many businesses and individuals, it means adjusting processes, updating information, and training to avoid costly errors. Therefore, if you own a business or manage tax responsibilities, now is a good time to get up to speed and prepare.

What is TribuCR and what does it change?

TribuCR is a digital system that seeks to centralize all tax procedures in one place. This includes returns, payments, consultations and refunds. The idea is to streamline processes, reduce human error and facilitate auditing.

The biggest change is that TribuCR will come with pre-filled declarations. This means that, when you enter the platform, you will find forms with part of the information already loaded, which will facilitate the management. But be careful: although the system helps you, the final responsibility for the information is still yours.

Another interesting point is that tax refunds are also automated. If you are entitled to a refund, you can request it through TribuCR and, if everything is in order, the system will process the deposit directly to the registered account.

What's up with ATV and Travi?

They will not disappear immediately. During a transition period, ATV and Travi will continue to operate along with TribuCR, but Hacienda has already announced that in July 2025 there will be a temporary suspension of ATV to make the data migration. So it is important that you keep your returns and obligations up to date to avoid delays or complications during that month.

What you need to do before launching

Here is a clear list of steps you should follow right now:

1. Verificá tu cédula de identidad: Si tu cédula fue emitida antes de septiembre de 2016, es necesario renovarla antes del 15 de julio de 2025. Esto porque el sistema te pedirá el número consecutivo al dorso de la cédula para validar tu identidad al registrarte.
2. Creá tu cuenta en TribuCR: Apenas el registro esté habilitado, no lo dejés para el último momento. Será necesario para acceder a todas las funcionalidades.
3. Capacitá a tu equipo: Si tenés colaboradores encargados de la parte contable o fiscal, asegurate de que entiendan cómo funciona la plataforma y cuáles serán los nuevos procedimientos.
4. Revisá tus sistemas internos: Si usás un software contable, verificá que sea compatible con TribuCR o actualizalo a tiempo.
5. Hacé una auditoría preventiva: Es buen momento para revisar tus procesos fiscales, detectar posibles inconsistencias y corregirlas antes de que el sistema entre en operación.

Security and data protection

A valid concern is security. According to the Treasury, TribuCR will operate in the cloud and will have advanced cybersecurity measures to protect the tax information of individuals and companies. The platform will also allow for better tracking and monitoring of information, which strengthens transparency.

What can you gain from this change?

Although the transition may generate some anxiety, TribuCR represents a great opportunity for companies and individuals to manage their taxes in a more orderly and efficient way. With less manual paperwork, fewer errors and faster processes, digitalization brings benefits if you know how to take advantage of it.
